A multi-jet water meter is a type of mechanical water meter used for measuring water consumption in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. It is called "multi-jet" because it has multiple points of jet, or directed water flow, which are used to spin the impeller inside the meter. The impeller then measures the flow of water through the meter, and the readings are recorded.
Unlike single-jet water meters, multi-jet water meters can operate with a wide range of flows and tolerate low flows of water, making them an appropriate option for many buildings including apartments or hotels with multiple units that may typically have abrupt changes in the water flow rate.
The multi-jet design utilizes impeller placement to help even out the water flow's force around the impeller, which improves the meter's precision and accuracy. The accuracy of a multi-jet water on low flow velocity can be as high as 98%.
Multi-jet water meters are built to last, constructed with lead-free materials appropriate for use in potable water systems. This improves the longevity of its service life and also reduces the probability of contaminating the water being measured. They can also be equipped with additional features like remote reading systems, pulse output devices or leak detection instruments to enable remote monitoring and alert systems.
